While The Power of the Herd is set to be in stores March 5, people who pre-ordered it on Amazon.com have notified us that they received it this week. The book has received some amazing endorsements from some of Linda’s favorite writers, including Andrew Weil (numerous books on integrative medicine), Peter Levine (Waking the Tiger), Allan Hamilton (Zen Mind, Zen Horse), Bob Wall (Coaching for Emotional Intelligence), Christian de Quincey (Radical Knowing), and Meg Daley Olmert, who wrote an amazing book on the biology of the human-animal bond (Made for Each Other). The publisher just sent out press packets last week and already Linda has received an offer to write an article for a corporate leadership magazine.
The Power of the Herd is written for more general audiences and has the potential to bring horse-inspired wisdom to a much wider public. Though many of the skills and studies featured are applicable to professional situations, this is not exclusively about corporate leadership. Four years in the making, the book instead emphasizes that leadership and social intelligence are advanced personal development skills—essential elements in social change, innovation, and violence prevention. As Linda asks in the introduction: “What might we accomplish if we finally understood how to be powerful, together?” And she offers twelve, very specific Power of the Herd Guiding Principles to show us how to bring nonpredatory wisdom and power into an intensely competitive, sometimes brutal human world, transforming the destructive habits of the last 5,000 years into a future where everyone’s talents are valued and everyone’s needs are met.
