November 8, 2024 November 11, 2024

Introductory or Advanced — Facilitated by Linda Kohanov

Time: 9:30 am to 5:30 pm daily

Cost: $1800  includes lunch and workshop materials.

This powerful workshop is for people who would like to exercise intuition, creativity, personal development and relationship skills through reflective non-riding activities with horses, visionary journeying experiences with music, and simple yet profound nonverbal communication techniques that will enhance your connection to all the animals and humans in your life. No previous horse experience is necessary.

Best-selling author and equine-facilitated learning pioneer Linda Kohanov will also teach participants how to use her Way of the Horse book and wisdom cards (art by Kim McElroy) for personal reflection and inspiration.

Why Black Horse Wisdom?

After studying cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary writings, ancient myths and stories involving black horses, Linda saw a recognizable theme. As she wrote in several of her books, including Way of the Horse: Equine Archetypes for Self-Discovery and The Power of the Herd:

“In dreams and myths from around the world, the black horse heralds the reassertion of qualities difficult for the well-groomed persona to handle, revolutionary insights and energies that can’t be readily tamed by the rules of polite society. To those courageous yet humble souls who ultimately aspire to ride the black horse, this explosive force becomes a vehicle for expanded consciousness, inspiration and innovation. To those who suppress or ignore its talents, fear its passion, or try to harness its energy without compassion and integrity, the black horse becomes an impetuous and compulsive element, inflicting mood swings and bizarre cravings on people who once seemed the epitome of good sense and reason.

“Black horse wisdom challenges people to step off the well-worn paths of civilized thought. It is wisdom shrouded in mystery, wisdom that’s felt more deeply than it can ever be explained, wisdom we often ignore, unfortunately, until some difficulty in life opens us up to other possibilities. This universal archetype champions knowledge rejected by the mainstream: instinct, emotion, intuition, sensory and extrasensory awareness, and the human-animal partnership associated with tribal cultures. Science may never be able to dissect this wisdom, to bring it into the light of conscious understanding, but through the metaphor of the horse, and through real-life interactions with these animals, we can learn to track these mysteries, maybe even ride them if we develop the right balance of trust, discernment, skill, abandon, and power.”

I highly recommend Black Horse Wisdom. This was my third workshop with Linda Kohanov, and I was again changed by my experiences with her and her horses as my teachers. In this intimate setting, Linda shared with us the essence of the wisdom the horses have to teach us. She facilitated interactions with members of her herd that allowed us to access our heart’s desire, convey that image to the horse, and to interact in ways that defy description. She guided us through journeys, and she helped us access myths from an ancient realm that can inform our lives today. In my work with Linda over the past five years, I have come to appreciate her as an intuitive teacher, a passionate writer, and a wise guide in learning the way of the horse. I am grateful for her patience, grace, and eloquence in helping me on each new step of my journey.
